About the artist
Alberto Lorca was born in Málaga and began his career as an artist, driven by his passion for art and the influence from the renowned painter Eduardo Malaga Maximoff. During these years he acquired technical knowledge and his first venture into the handling of materials and color. It was when he painted a collection of landscape and expressionistic content workart. In 2009 he deepened in drawing and painting at the Art Center in Seville, where he had a fertile artistic exchange with other artists of the Andalusian landscape.
Since 2011 he moved from Seville to the town of El Puerto de Santa María, Cádiz, where he remains in a constant creation and research in his painting. The artist develops his artistic work between these two provinces and his hometown.
Emotions: This gallery shows the first creations of “Emotions” Collection . Comprise “Emotions in Flamenco” , a work dedicated exclusively to the world of flamenco and Andalusian folckor and “Other emotions ” including portraits and other creations on diverse subjects.
Landscape: This section involves diverse landscape lights with the same meaning of the tangible – intangible collection (see below). Lights are represented in two forms; the Tangible represents the reality and the inTangible is the same realty simplified in an abstraction of colors and shadows, the “essence of the landscape”.
Tangible – inTangible: The gallery is organized in pairs of paintings, 1-2 and 3-4. In both pairs the same scene is treated in two different ways. One way in a very traditional expressionism where figures inhabit in dramatic spaces and the other represent the essence of that painting using pure, simple, heartbreaking and dramatic forms characteristics of Lorca´s paintings. The rest of the work is presented with the same purpose in the same screen on top of each other. These forms are the way from the formal representation of reality, characters , lights, … to a simplified abstraction of each of these paintings to represent the essence in each of them.
Technic and Metaphysics
With a free and avant-garde style, Lorca focuses his work on the essence of the things, the elements, the emotions and the materials. He uses oil, canvas and water to obtain pure colors and move their ideas in the simplest way. He is a multidisciplinary artist who dominates the painting, performance, video-art, and even organized “happenings” where a small circle of artists reaches the emotional expression and collective representation.
He admits that in his work there is a parallelism with the Myth of the Cave of Plato. On his canvas he captures the intelligible world, in the philosophical allegory, making a play of light, shadows, shapes and color. The dualism of the philosophy describes, first the sensible world, world of darkness and confused knowledge and secondly the intelligible world, clear and where the knowledge of the supreme Idea of Good resides. Lorca illustrates the way up that the artist must travel from the mere formal expressions, sensible world (objects, plants, animals, humans, … ) of reality, to the knowledge of the ideal representation of reality, intelligible world (essences, ideas, emotions, … ) . Their forms, archetypal expression, heartbreaking and full of emotion are an ideal representation of the nature, the objects, the situations or the experiences. From within these forms he makes a complex study of light and shadows to aim their abstraction. It focuses on the separation of the light from each of the shadows to create volumes. His palette reproduces all lights imagined that one beside the other are competing but are mixed by the human eye, resulting in large volumetric dose of movement and vision . From there, the painting let the viewer play with their own spatial vision.

Bernardo Palomo , art critic , published in Diario de Jerez, exhibition “Emotions in flamenco”, Jerez de la Frontera, Cádiz, from March to April 2014 . “… other than the formal passion that arises from the excessive features of representation – sometimes gentle, sometimes extreme – and artistic significance of the work, serve to open routes in a needy aesthetics of flamenco that needs racial arguments that requires its own dimension of its entity as a high art. With Alberto Lorca the prudish manifestations of a pictorial reality that contributed very little were closed. After this exposure, indifference in Flamenco painting subject is no longer so predictable” .

Diario de Cádiz , exhibition “Emotions in Flamenco”, Chiclana (Cádiz ), June-August 2013: ” The illustration of Alberto Lorca´s universe of flamenco is stark, minimal, fragmentary, untraceable in space, but possessed of a strong expressive perspective where have a place the most unexpected affairs of the passion moments that flamenco poses. His powerful figures developed on a splendid color field are but metaphors of a reality that allows all the infinite manifestations of an art that comes unexpected and that the painter learn to to mark all his impossible suggestions. [ … ] In his paintings we find many nods to a sensed reality, schemes of an art without complexes, where everything is possible and that referees the faint marks of the most immediate, what comes spontaneous of experiential environments or found in the impossible flamenco territories. The painting of Alberto Lorca, however, do not let indifferent.
